Gallery 2 - Bulldozer Blues

I live in a suburb in Greater Toronto, and my house backs onto a farm which has been sold to developers for over a thousand houses to be built on it. This series was done after I learnt of the sale to the developers.

Before They Bulldoze It

Artist's Notes: My house backs onto a farm which has been sold to developers for over 1500 homes to be built on it. I'm trying to capture this beautiful view before they bulldoze it. (Acrylic on Canvas)
Before They Bulldoze It 2

Artist's notes: I love the farm so much that I am doing this second one, a watercolour and ink painting of it so that it will be forever etched in my mind. (Watercolour and Ink)

Here Comes The Bulldozer

Artist's notes: The dreaded day has finally arrived.......here comes the bulldozer : (. (acrylic on canvas)
The Best Scarecrow

Artist's Notes: The noise and commotion coming from the construction behind my house is driving me crazy. Even the birds hate it. The silver lining is that the bulldozer acts as the best scarecrow. All the cherries and grapes in my garden are not eaten by the birds this year (Oil on Canvas)

Pretending It's Not There

Artist's Notes: I have had enough of the construction on the farm behind my house. Since I am already looking at the bulldozers and cranes in real life all day, why do I need to look at a painting with the bulldozer? So I have decided to crop the bulldozer out of my other painting, "Here Comes The Bulldozer". Now, let's pretend the bulldozer is not there...let me have some peace and quiet. (Acrylic on Canvas)
Songbirds

Artist's notes:I've decided there's no point in looking at the bulldozer and be reminded of the construction noise, so I have digitally edited out the bulldozer and the shedded feathers from my previous painting "The Best Scarescrow" in my Bulldozer Blues Series. Now all I see are happy songbirds rejoicing, and all I hear is their beautiful song! This illustrates that there is always a different way of seeing the world. Just make the best of it :)

My Sanctuary

Artist's Notes: I can't stand the noise, the dust and the commotion from the construction site behind my house ...thank goodness I've found my sanctuary in the park in my neighbourhood...with the ponds, the trees, the birds, the butterflies...and the dragonflies (Watercolour)
Lotus Dream

Artist's Notes: I find that one way to deal with the construction noise behind my house is to keep a tranquil heart. Painting this lotus dream purifies my thoughts and shuts out all the noise and commotion. (Watercolour)

No Privacy

Artist's notes: No more view, no more privacy after they build on the farm behind my house! People in those new houses will all be staring at me. It makes me feel like the lone fish at Xcaret where I went snorkeling. There weren't that many fish at that spot & all the snorkelers were gathering around looking at that one poor fish. (Watercolour)
After The Dust Has Settled

Artist's Notes: Now that the farm behind me has been completely replaced by a thousand houses, after the dust has settled, this is how it looks. (Watercolour)

I Hear A Buzz

Artist's notes: Yes...the buzz is that I have moved into my new home. After years of looking, I finally found another house which also backs onto a farm in horse country with lots of rolling fields. What's even better is that my house sits on an acre of land. So even if they build on the farm behind me this time, I will have a good buffer! (Acrylic, ink and oil)
