Gallery 3 - Life is Beautiful

Of course there are unhappy times in life but if we look at the sunnier side, we are surrounded by things beautiful as well as friends and family who love us. Painting with vibrant colours brings out the beauty, joy, love and hope around us. I have a lot of fun doing it, and hope my paintings will bring a smile to your face too.

A Beautiful Day

Artist's Notes:It's a beautiful day! This is my drawing in pencil and coloured pencils of my resident chipmunk. It's so happy running around my backyard. I hope soon I will be able to run around the hockey field with my teammates too! Some good news today during the Covid-19 lockdown. It has just been announced in Ontario, Canada that we can start building our social bubble of 10 people, and yes we can hug without the need for social distancing, so I guess we can soon play field hockey as the bubble keeps expanding.(Pencil and Coloured Pencils)

Message Across The Ocean

Artist's Notes:I painted this before Covid and titled it "Message Across The Ocean". Little did I know that it would be so fitting for these times. A friend sent me a package by air from Asia, but I only received it 2 months later. Turns out that international mail outside of N. America has switched from air to sea due to the closing of our Canadian border and reduced air transport. Hopefully the situation improves and regular mail resumes. I got to learn to be thankful for what I have always taken for granted.(Acrylic on Canvas)

Feather From A Thousand Miles

Artist's Notes: I have received Christmas cards and gifts from afar. I love receiving good old mail. Also there is a Chinese saying "Gift of a feather from a thousand miles, it weighs little but means much" Thank you! (Watercolour)

Green Feather From A Thousand Miles

Goose Feather From A Thousand Miles

Artist's Notes: This is inspired by the Chinese saying "Gift of a goose feather from a thousand miles, it weighs little but means much" (Ink)

Thankful For The Colours Around Us

Artist's Notes: Happy Thanksgiving! Here in Canada it's Thanksgiving weekend, and usually by now, most of the leaves in my garden would have turned red or yellow by now, and I would have raked bags of leaves already. But this year, many trees are still green, and I am enjoying the array of colours around me. Be thankful! (Watercolour)
Merry Christmas

Artist's Notes: This is combining my love for colours, calligraphy and painting with a Chinese brush

I will Follow You

Artist's Notes: Art is up to the viewer's interpretation. This depicts a couple, it can be me and my husband or it can be you and your partner. Which fish do you think you are in the relationship? (Acrylic on canvas)
Where Are You

Artist's Notes: My husband and I went to the mall, but there were so many people doing last minute Christmas shopping that I lost him. This image flashed across my mind while I was looking all over for him so I painted this that night...( Oil on canvas )

I Can See Clearly Now

Artist's Notes: My husband just had eye surgery a few days ago. We are very lucky...there are only a handful doctors world wide who can perform this surgery. The surgeon said that my husband's monster eyeball was abnormally large, making the operation even more complicated and tough. While my husband is recovering, we are on the watch for complications. It's been very stressful for both him and me. I painted this to de-stress, and to wish him a speedy recovery (Watercolour, Ink and Acrylic)
Bubble Tree

Artist's Notes: I love painting bubbles because it brings me into a happy bubbly mood. I started out painting a tree, and look what it turned into ^.^ (acrylic on canvas)

Perky Daisies

Artist's notes: Yay ! Spring is here! Flowers are blooming! (Acrylic on canvas board)
Parrot Eye

Artist's Notes: When I'm in a good mood, everything I paint is full of colours (Pastels)

Cool

Artist's notes: This was done in the middle of summer for my lovely niece who special requested penguins. (Acrylic on canvas)
Bubbly Baby Snake

Artist's Notes: It's time to welcome a new addition to my extended family. I painted this for the baby shower welcoming the new baby to be born in the Year of the Snake.(Acrylic and watercolour on canvas)

Thank You My Love

Artist's Notes: I have never felt confident about my own looks, but my husband has made me feel as beautiful as the Chinese heroine( Yu So Chow ) in the movies I saw as a kid... Thank you, my love. This is for you, Happy Valentine! (Oil and Acrylic on canvas)

Dream Of A Water Droplet

Artist's Notes: This winter has been so long and freezing cold. I just survived the coldest February in Toronto in recorded history. Many homes have frozen pipes and are without water. We are lucky in the sense that just the pipes of the main bath in our house were frozen. We opened up the wall, thawed out the pipes, added insulation, then wrapped the pipes with foam. Then we had to patch up the wall, and repaint. After all that hard work, the only thing that popped up in my dream that night was this water droplet. (Watercolour painting on watercolour paper)

Smiley Water Drops

Artist's Notes: Yay! The frozen water pipes have now thawed, I've got water back! (Watercolour painting on watercolour paper)

Chasing Dreams

Artist's Notes: This is my pet lobster. I keep it in its own tank complete with a little waterfall, but my little lobster keeps escaping...I guess chasing it is chasing dreams of a better and bigger world outside the tank.

Sending My Love Across The Ocean

Artist's Notes: I painted this for my sister who lives on the other side of the Pacific Ocean (Acrylic on canvas painting )

Watching Out For You On Rainy Days

Artist's Notes: One little chick is on the lookout while the other is feeding. This is inspired by my childhood experience. One is my sister, one is me. We looked out for each other during trying times. (Mixed Media on canvas painting )

It's A Beautiful Day

Artist's Notes: Summer has arrived and the weather is wonderful! I'm in such a good mood that I see gorgeous colours in everything! It's such a beautiful day! (Acrylic and ink on canvas painting )

Rise Up Rise Up

Artist's Notes: When I was drawing this betta fish, I kept hearing the song "Rise Up" at the back of my mind...that's the song by the Canadian band, Parachute Club, in 1983...my first year after immigrating to Canada...Rise Up Rise Up... (Watercolour pencils)

Sweet Harvest

Artist's Notes: Everyday I notice something different and pretty in my garden. This bumble bee is working hard in my garden with its pollen basket full. (Acrylic on Canvas)

Sweet Pea

Artist's Notes: These sweet pea flowers are from my garden. These are the sweet pea flowers from my garden. There are so many flowering plants in my garden that I would love to share with you. (Watercolour)

It Is Freezing Cold

Artist's Notes: It's freezing cold here in Toronto ! It dipped to minus 28 celcius and minus 40 with windchill. I did this painting staying home during the deep freeze playing acrylic pour. I painted the polar bear after the flowing acrylic settled like ice floats. (Acrylic on Canvas)
